From the server room to the camera
Mark grew up in East Tennessee, the kid who took apart the family computer and had to put it back together before anyone got home. He studied technical systems at a Knoxville community college, finished a degree at East Tennessee State, and followed the work to Houston, where energy companies needed people who could keep critical systems running.
He spent the next decade in oil and gas, at El Paso Corporation, offshore driller Atwood Oceanics and Global Industries. He made virtualization the standard there and cut the physical servers by 75%. Then he moved into consulting, where he built a 7,000-seat virtual desktop platform and served cities, colleges and a card processor that couldn't afford a minute of downtime.
In 2015 he became a managing partner at a consulting firm. For seven years he was the architect by day and the salesman by night. He learned that the best technology loses to the better proposal, so in his forties he went back to school and earned a Master's in Marketing.
The turning point came in 2024. A young founder showed him how she ran her whole brand by pasting client contracts, pricing and customer lists into a free chatbot. Mark had spent 20 years protecting data like that for large enterprises, and small brands were giving it away to get a faster caption.
He went independent that year and started building private AI for professional firms. Now he teaches the next generation what he wishes someone had told him at 22: build AI into your brand like infrastructure, own it, and learn to sell it, because every business around you is about to need someone who can.
